REVIEW : Whiskey Business (States of Love) by Avon Gale

31554245

Ryder Waites will do anything to keep the tiny town of Gallows Grove, Kentucky, from vanishing off the map—even sell his family’s whiskey recipe to Bluegrass Bourbon in Lexington. Hopeful that the larger company can provide necessary improvements to the distillery, Ryder’s ultimate goal is to get Gallows Grove on the Bourbon Trail… and bring in much-needed tourism revenue. But to keep producing Hanged Man Bourbon in Gallows Grove, he’ll have to convince company liaison, unbearably stuffy and seriously hot Adam Keller, that he's worth the investment.

Adam comes from an old-money family, but he’s determined to make his own way in the world. When he’s sent to Gallows Grove, he questions the life choices that led him to a rented room in a funeral home, in a town full of macabre-themed businesses. And he doesn’t know what to make of Ryder, the descendant of bootleggers who’s on a mission to save his strange town from extinction. When Adam and Ryder put aside their initial mistrust, the results are as smooth as good whiskey. But after Adam’s assignment ends, he’ll have to decide if small-town life and a future with Ryder is to his tastes.

OMG! Adam 'is' definitely loved Ryder1 With all that creepy town, creepy dolls, creepy house. Definitely love!
Ok, don't shoot me, this is the first Avon Gale book I have ever read, I struggled to adjust with the writing style in the beginning , but not by long. Because, I found a bit of Amy Lane's style here and there, and I think, me and this author will get along just fine.
This book is funny, witty, and maaaaaan...so dirty! And I loved my book dirty!
It was a fun read and adorable, and the ending was great, I couldn't ask for more.
Added to the ending, some creepy dolls Ryder still 'keep' for having fun in the future...he is a handful!
Adam don't mind, who am I to object?
Recommended!

I liked the idea of two former enemies reunited and falling in love.
But this one was not really for me I guess. Too much telling and cooking details bored me easily.
I admit I did some skimming, especially the cooking, if you like this kind of details, this one's probably a book for you.
I didn't see any sparkling chemistry between the two MCs as well, which was disappointing.
But I finished it anyways.

Krampus Hates Christmas (2016 Advent Calendar - Bah Humbug)

33001893

Karl Kringle hates the modern-day Christmas. He was born to be Krampus, but the Holiday Council refuses to let him help his brother Nick—aka Santa Claus—with the Naughty List until he finds his holiday spirit. To meet that challenge, he’s turned human and dumped in a strange apartment.

Lewis Weatherby loves the holidays and always has. Not only do his parents own a pumpkin patch and tree farm, he’s also inherited a Christmas-themed shop. All he wants from Santa is the man of his dreams, and the Big Guy might’ve just delivered. Lewis’s new neighbor Karl is gorgeous, sweet, and has a fantastic sense of humor—if his jokes about being Krampus are any indication.

Soon getting home is less important to Karl than what will happen when Lewis inevitably realizes the truth behind his jokes. He’s finally starting to understand the real joy of the season—now he just has to figure out how to hold on to it.

Glad to know that Santa is married to Noel (apparently he's a cross-dressing), and Krampus is gays as well!
Reading this, I had so much fun!

Krampus is really as sweet as teddy bear, people! No wonder everyone easily falling in love with him. Big, tall, furry guy, cuddle-able and generous.
Set aside the scary Krampus, this one is sweet and adorable, like a cupcake.
I liked Lewis friend Jerry, that one is really something else and I'm glad he can finally got his own HEA. Of course with a little 'magic' here and there!

This one is really entertaining, recommended for a sweet, light with a definite HEA for a holiday's read!

REVIEW : Granby Knitting Stories (Granby Knitting) by Amy Lane

32586709

Alpaca rancher and fiber mill owner Rance Crawford is instantly smitten with his brand-new neighbor Ben McCutcheon, in The Winter Courtship Rituals of Fur-Bearing Critters; he just has to find a good way to show his interest. Jeremy, an ex-con hanging on to his last bit of hope, thinks life might be looking up when Rance Crawford offers him a job, in How to Raise an Honest Rabbit, but when Jeremy meets Aiden and his past comes knocking, will Jeremy have the courage to stay and fight? Stanley is stuck in a rut, in Knitter in His Natural Habitat, unsure if he’s happy with his personal life or his professional life as a floor designer for craft stores; then Johnny into his life, trailing a dark past, and Stanley has to decide what he’s willing to give up to keep Johnny. In Blackbird Knitting in a Bunny’s Lair, Jeremy barely survives a horrific beating, and he’s left with the scars to prove it; between the Jeremy’s long road to recovery and a friend’s baby who needs special care, Aiden and Jeremy might find the common ground necessary to firm up their shaky relationship.

The Winter Courtship Rituals of Fur-Bearing Critters

Rance Crawford is an alpaca rancher, fiber mill owner, and self-proclaimed grumpy bastard. When sweet, charming tenderfoot Ben McCutcheon moves onto Crawford’s rural road, Rance is very aware that Ben makes it a grand total of two gay men in their tiny town, and even though he is instantly, painfully smitten, any move he makes could be simply chalked up to being hard up. Using his best weapon and favorite skill, Crawford launches an awkward, wordless effort to make sure Ben is kept warm during the cold Colorado winter, every last piece of him—especially his heart.

How to Raise an Honest Rabbit

Everything about Jeremy has always been a lie—including his last name. When one grift too many ends in tragedy, Jeremy goes straight. But life’s hard for an ex-con, and Jeremy is down to panhandling and hope when Rance Crawford offers him work at a tiny alpaca farm and fiber mill. Jeremy takes him up on the job, thinking this could be his last chance to be a good man, and meets Aiden, who is growing into a better one.

As Aiden comes of age, Jeremy finds himself desperate to grow up, too, because Aiden starts looking to him for things Jeremy doesn’t know how to give. Being honest is terrifying for a man who’s learned to rabbit at the first sign of conflict—more so when Aiden gives Jeremy a reason to stay that can’t be packed up and carried in a knapsack. When Jeremy’s past comes knocking at their door, can Jeremy trust enough in Aiden and his new home to answer bravely back?

Knitter in His Natural Habitat

Stanley’s life took a left turn at a knitting shop and hit a dead end. The closest thing he’s had to a relationship breaks things off to date a “nice boy,” and none of the pretty young things in Boulder’s limited gay scene do it for Stanley. He needs to reevaluate whether working as a floor designer for a series of craft stores is really where he wants to be.

Then Stanley does a peculiar thing: he starts to live the life he fell into. Stitch by stitch, he knits his life into something meaningful. Just when he does, Johnny, the store’s new delivery boy, walks in.

Johnny is like no one Stanley has ever met: he doesn’t believe in quickies in the bathroom and has a soft spot for theater and opera. There has to be a catch. When Johnny’s dark past comes back to haunt them, Stanley realizes how much he loves his cushy life in the yarn store—but he’ll give it all up to keep the man who makes his ordinary life extraordinary.

Blackbird Knitting in a Bunny's Lair

After three years of waiting for “rabbit” Jeremy to commit to a life in Granby—and a life together—Aiden Rhodes was appalled when Jeremy sustained a nearly fatal beating to keep a friend out of harm's way. How could Aiden’s bunny put himself in danger like that?

Aiden needs to get over himself, because Jeremy has a long road to recovery, and he's going to need Aiden's promise of love every step of the way. Jeremy has new scars on his face and body to deal with, and his heart can’t afford any more wounds.

When their friend’s baby needs some special care, the two men find common ground to firm up their shaky union. With Aiden’s support and his boss’s inspiration, Jeremy comes up with a plan to make sure Ariadne's little blackbird comes into this world with everything she needs. While Jeremy grows into his new role as protector, Aiden needs to ease back on his protectiveness over his once-timid lover. Aiden may be a wolf in student's clothing and Jeremy may be a rabbit of a man, but that doesn’t mean they can’t walk the wilds of Granby together.

The Winter Courtship Rituals of Fur-Bearing Critters

This is a sweet fluffy holiday story, of course. Definitely an insta-love, because, yeah, Ben is cute like that and Crawford is just a grumpy man, and seemed like Ben has no problem with that.
Um, probably because of what Craw gave him, the courtship with his knitting. Sweet.
This one is pretty fast, love, moving in (Ben suggested that).
Well, this is a holiday seasons in the air, we need some sweet candy taste story.
This one need no brainer to enjoy. Enjoyable and fun. Liked it!

How to Raise an Honest Rabbit

I didn't really get into 'the twins' as Craw said about Jeremy and Aiden. It was a good start but then, too many knitting details bored me. I love Amy, love her books and I really enjoyed Crawford and Ben's story.
But I can't really invested my heart for Jeremy and Aiden. Sure Aiden is sweet, and eighteen, and Jeremy, the sweetest ex-con I have ever met, they're good for each other.
It was just that, and the whole making you some knit will make you stay, and the sweetness of them together. As a novella, this one felt too long for me.
I'll still be reading Stanley's story, I want to know what's his thought about Craw.
This one was just not for me.

Knitter in His Natural Habitat

There's something about Stanley that made me sad and bitter. You know, the whole 'I'm not worthy of a relationship' thing.
He offered what he can give, and people just took it, and walked away.
But Johnny/Gianni saw 'something' in him that worth fighting for, and I was glad Johnny found Stanley.
I liked this one better. But the ending...gosh... I felt guilty for not liking Jeremy's story earlier.
I hope for a better ending for Jeremy and Aiden next.

Blackbird Knitting in a Bunny's Lair

I think this one is a much better story than their first book.
Maybe it's Jeremy's healing progress or the family or Aiden's determination to heal him and raised Jeremy's self confidence after that horrible night.
Lots of tears of course, this is an Amy Lane's classic, torturing your heart along with a heartwarming special.

This is Amy Lane's classic, the cover is sweet but don't let Amy fool you, you need tissues for the whole books.

This is a definitely sweet and enjoyable holiday story.
Busy with his work, Ethan sometimes forgot that he has a private life, and Toby.
Oh that sweet, sweet man of yours, Ethan.
You should pay attention to him more.
But sometimes, we need some lessons to learn to realized that we need 'time' for people we love and loved us, time to pause and set aside the work and start to re-evaluate.
Toby didn't give Ethan a hard 'lesson', but enough to make Ethan 'think' how much he loved Toby and how much desperate he wants Toby in his life for good.
And Toby made it sure, to make him 'sees' what he actually need.
Fluffy and entertaining, and I can't help myself for falling in love with Toby. Just like Ethan.

Cowboys Don't Come Out by Tara Lain

32491336

Rand McIntyre settles for good enough. He loves his small California ranch, raising horses, and teaching riding to the kids he adores—but having kids of his own and someone to love means coming out, and that would jeopardize everything he’s built. Then, despite his terror of flying, he goes on a holiday to Hana, Hawaii, with his parents and meets the dark and mysterious Kai Kealoha, a genuine Hawaiian cowboy. Rand takes to Kai’s kid brother and sister as much as he drools over Kai, but the guy sports more prickles than a horned toad and more secrets than the exotic land he comes from.

Kai’s earned his privacy and lives to protect his “kids.” He ought to stay away from the big, handsome cowboy for everyone’s sake—but since the guy’s just a haole on a short vacation, how much damage can he do? When all of Kai’s worst fears and Rand’s darkest nightmares come true at once, there’s not much chance for two cowboys who can’t—or won’t—come out.

What's not to love about two closeted cowboys falling in love?
The cover is so gorgeous (ehem, I have a weak knees for cowboys...), the blurb convinced me to read this.
While I really wanted to love the story, I was kinda need to do some protest to the author about 'romantic time' between Kai and Rand.
Sure I loved love at first sight, insta-love in a holiday seasons...Nothing more romantic than that!
But, I can't see any strong 'love chemistry' between Rand and Kai even until the end of the story.
For me, Kai is still skeptical about it.
The lacking of togetherness probably caused it? Because Rand and Kai were busy taking care of the children, and even the dances that supposed to be sexy, didn't give any grip to me. It was just dances, and too many girls around them irritated me a lot. And the sex seemed a little flat to me, sadly.
I liked Julie, but not crazy about her, she seemed oblivious about Rand's reluctance about her.
I loved Mrs.Orwell, I think she's a little bit of clairvoyant, nice lady and determined one.
I liked Rand's father, mother is too pushy imho. I liked Aniki and Lani, but Lani as 12 yo, I think she's too old for her age, even she has an old soul inside her.
I didn't really like the drama, it probably much needed in the story, but imo, way to much for holiday :)
Glad everything settled so great in the end. Everything was perfect. The ending was perfect. I can live with that only.
Though I enjoyed the moment with 'the bamboo' a little too much. Because, I love sex with adrenaline as companion!
This one was pretty much enjoyable if you can put aside the drama and the maturity of Lani.
It's your decision to make.

Because love is never easy.
It needs loads of tissue. And one was something I need to digest more slowly, because losing someone at David's age, was never easy. Been there before, and I'm glad David found Brandon and moved on (slowly).
This is not an easy read, no fun and rainbow, but the ending was worth waiting for. I can't blame David for his doubt and guilty feeling to his late lover, it was definitely understandable.
I'm glad Brandon can put up with it and he deserved all the happiness in his life. Kinda stubborn, but this is the struggles of almost the majority of gay relationship, so.
I just realized that this is Robert Winter's first book, and I will definitely read his other books in the future. The second book need to come out sooner!
