ARC REVIEW : Sweet Nothings (Amuse Bouche #1) by T. Neilson

38536148

Will a bitter bite from the past spoil a sweet romance?

Tristan Love, the youngest of seven brothers, is back in his hometown. He’s left the New York food scene and an abusive relationship behind him, but he holds his love of French pastries close to his heart and is determined to put his skills to use in a bakery of his own.

Returning to his childhood home means his meddlesome brother Simon will butt into his business, but before the bakery even opens its doors, Tristan’s delectable creations have the town’s mouths watering, and Jake, a cute mechanic, asks Tristan out. It all seems worthwhile….

That is, until the bakery burns down, Jake’s criminal past comes to light, and Tristan’s nasty ex rears his head where he is decidedly not wanted.

Sweet Nothings (Amuse Bouche #1)Sweet Nothings by T. Neilson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Moving forward from an abusive relationship, while you're 'not that strong', is a little scary.
But Tristan at least had a courage to run away, and back home. Thank God he has his walls of brothers to protect him from whatever, whoever. Too protective even.
Enter Jake, an ex-con, and Tristan knew his life will never be the same again.
This actually a very sweet but not too sweet to give you diabetes after. Just a right dose of sweetness, a pinch of obsessed violent ex. Hell, they're ex for a reason!
I know that they're moving too fast, but I'm kinda liked it that Tristan trusted Jake with all is heart, never judged Jake for his past. I liked their dynamic and how sweet and protective Jake for Tristan.
You don't need to frown reading this except for Christopher, Tristan's ex. Ugh!
I don't know what kept Tristan stayed with him for that long. Okay, slash the past, let them move on with their life. And the brother, Garrett? Can we have his own story please?

I enjoyed the story, and you should too!

Excerpt

Gio swirled the amber liquid in his glass as he stared out of his floor to ceiling windows at the twinkling lights from the Seattle skyline below.  This place was supposed to be his sanctuary, his window to the beautiful world below. Instead, tonight it felt like his prison, like he was a captive in his own castle.  He reached up with one hand and angrily yanked at his bowtie to loosen it then he unbuttoned the first few buttons on his shirt. As his hand dropped back down it brushed over the lump in his inner breast pocket.  He felt the tears immediately form in his eyes as he reached shaking fingers inside and pulled out the velvet box. He worked it open with one hand, the other still firmly clasping the glass with the whiskey in it because he knew how badly he needed it. He drained the rest of the fluid as he stared down at the silver and black bands with the diamonds glinting in the moonlight.
Then he hauled his arm back and sent his empty glass flying towards the far wall where it smashed into a hundred pieces as he shouted out “FUCK!” into his empty room.
Empty.
That was an eerily accurate thought right now because he did feel empty.  His heart was shattered and his entire soul felt devoid of everything.
The problem was that he didn’t know why.
Why did he have to feel like this?  Why did he have to go from being happier than he’d ever been to…..this?
He hadn’t done anything wrong as far as he knew but maybe he had?  He tried to wrack his brain to think of something, anything that would explain why his entire world had crashed down around his feet.
Was it something he said?
Was it something he did?
He didn’t know, he just didn’t know.
Because the one person who could tell him had left.  He’d run. And he wasn’t speaking to Gio.
He wouldn’t answer his calls.
He ignored his texts.
Tommy’s silence was like a knife piercing Gio’s dying heart over and over and over again.  Tommy, his beautiful, fierce strong Tiger, had buried his claws in Gio’s chest and squeezed.
He slid his hand into his other pocket and pulled his phone out to….what?  Torture his eviscerated heart some more by reading the text again? Apparently so, since he found his thumb sliding over the screen to wake it up and he stared down at it yet again, even though those words were already burned into his brain:
Tiger: I’m sorry, I just can’t do this anymore.  Don’t call, don’t text, just let me go, please. What the fuck did that even mean?
How did they go from laughing and enjoying themselves at Tony’s VIP celebration and wedding to this? All in a matter of a few hours.
His hand squeezed his phone as a sob broke free and he came really close to throwing the damn thing against the wall to join the broken glass.
But he couldn’t.
Because he needed his phone.
He needed it to fight, to fight for his man, to fight for their love, to fight for his life, to fight for….them.
He had no other choice.
If he didn’t, he didn’t think he’d survive.
He brought up his contacts and scrolled through as his heart hammered in his chest.
He knew he was grasping at straws here.
And he also knew that it was almost three in the morning.
But this couldn’t wait.
He pressed to dial and brought it up to his ear.
“’Lo?” a tired sounding voice said from the other end.
“I, it’s Gio.  I need your help.”

ARC REVIEW : Ten Mile Bottom by Teodora Kostova

39310064

Hitting rock bottom is just the beginning...

I’m a son, a brother, a friend.
A writer.
An addict.
Dead.
Cardiac arrest isn’t enough to keep me dead, though. The doctors brought me back, but for what?

At twenty four I’ve already achieved what most people do in a life time. I’m a successful author, own a flat in the heart of London and drive my dream sports car.
Or at least that’s what people see.
Once the spotlight fades, I’m left alone with my overactive mind, alcohol and drugs the only way to quiet down the noise.
Until an overdose nearly kills me and drags everyone I love down with me.
With the help of my best friend, I leave London and its toxic influence behind, moving to a small town in the outskirts of Cambridge to try and put my life back together again.

If only it were that easy.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I dealt with some addict in my life and I know how hard to stop it before it's too late.
This is a very sensitive issue and I was glad I received the ARC from the author to read and review this.
I like friends to lovers story, as much as I like enemies to lovers.I liked that this story took place in England, one of my favorite country in the world. And I adore the idyllic countryside even more.
So yeah, I enjoyed this book and loving Finn and Ben's dynamic while enjoying the small village life.
My only complain is Finn's Mother, oh I hate that kind of mother, both in fiction and in real life. It's just, too much!

I liked the slow development of Ben and Finn's relationship(not too slow which I am grateful, LOL), and how they're nurturing the pain and be there for each other.
I loved Ben, and how easy he was with Finn and dealing with Finn's problem, and I loved how Finn was there for Ben when he needed Finn. Ben is my favorite, he's easy to love and he's insecurity and vulnerability made me wanted to wrap him in a blanket and momma bear-ing him :)

If you're a fan of this author and especially, a friends to lovers, and cuddly boyfriend Ben, I think this one is for you.

ARC REVIEW : Omega's Prince (Baby Makes Three, #5) by Bella Bennet

39318724

When Omega figure skater Jeff and incognito Alpha Prince Henrik spend one steamy night together at the Olympics, they find themselves with a surprise pregnancy on their hands.
Now, the star crossed lovers must decide what they want. Can Jeff give up his career in America for a family life in Sweden? Can closeted Prince Henrik come out to claim Jeff and their unborn child with a royal wedding?

An Omega too famous to find love.
As an Olympic figure skater, Jeff was known far and wide. He had no problem finding men to date, but finding men that wanted him for himself and not his fame? Not so much.

An Alpha too far from the throne to matter.
As the youngest of four royal siblings, Prince Henrik is used to living in the public eye. But as the head of the Swedish delegation to the Olympic Games, he finds himself in the spotlight more than ever. So when given the chance to sneak into the Olympic Village and attend one of their infamous parties, he takes it.

Just a one-night stand.
Sassy Jeff is more than a match for the hot, tall blond on the dance floor ...and in bed. But there's no chance of them working out. They're too different, and the Swede has a secret.

Continents apart
Jeff can't stop thinking about the hot Swede, Henrik, whoever he was. Henrik's attempts to ease his heartbreak at letting the American go by throwing himself into his official duties do him no good.

When a chance encounter reunites the lovers, it seems like fate has given them a second go at the lives they both yearn for.

Can Prince Henrik tame the skittish figure skater Jeff and prove that their relationship could work, especially with a baby on the way?

Omega's Prince is a steamy 60,000 word Mpreg gay romance with a sassy twink, hot texting, royal wedding, baby and blissfully ever after.

Omega's Prince (Baby Makes Three, #5)Omega's Prince by Bella Bennet
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This story reminds me so much to one particular sassy figure skater from USA, which is one of LGBTQ icon lately, what he did made internet exploded.

Despite of what I imagine about Jeff, this is actually a sweet 'steamy' romance, low angst, cinderfella vibes all over the place, and mpreg. In the parallel life of omega verse world.
Love at first sight is always interesting to read, add a dream come true, and a Prince!
I liked some part of the book, on how much Henrik cannot live without his sassy omega and how he came out to public because of Jeff. But there's something missing. The chemistry was kind of lacking between the two of them except the hot sex.
This was an okay read for me, as for you, try this one, if you're a figure skating lover and want to see his HEA, amybe this book is for you.

  Excerpt

I don’t know what possessed me to do it, but I sat up on his lap, his arms falling to his sides, but he remained motionless. I stared in awe as I began trailing my fingers up his body, from his hip bones, trailing along his defined abdominal muscles, up his pectorals feeling the tuffs of chest hair tickling the skin of my fingers. I continued from his collarbone and up his neck until my palms rested on the man’s cheeks. Gerard stirred, but never woke.
I tilted my head slightly and marveled at the man that once held my father’s heart, but now was quickly beginning to worm his way into mine. I wished I knew an artist who would be able to capture Gerard's face on paper perfectly so that I could look at it every night after his trip in Abingdon was over. I didn’t want to think of him leaving. I just wanted to revel in the stunning work of art that was Gerard Ramhart. All man, all muscle, and how I wanted him to be mine. I wasn’t afraid to admit it to myself anymore. I wanted him, so fucking bad; but would he ever be mine? Would I ever get to feel what it was like to be his? Would I ever know what it was like to have his lips on mine?
Instinctively, my thumbs began running along his dark thickly grown beard and then to his lips. I remembered that moment when he was stepping out of the shower, and we almost shared a kiss. Almost. I never stopped thinking about it, and the desire to kiss him at that moment was making my heart practically beat out of my chest.
As if my body had a mind of its own, I began leaning down, bringing myself closer to Gerard’s face. My face was inches away from his. I could feel his breath on my skin, and his full lips were close, oh so close. My heart was thundering so loud I was worried Gerard would hear it and wake up. This may have been my only chance to kiss him, and I didn’t want it to slip by. I got closer and was about to press my lips to his when Gerard’s eyes shot open.
Oh fuck, I was so screwed. I had no way to explain this. I pulled back some to looked into his startled eyes. I opened my mouth to try to say something, anything, but what the fuck could I say?
“I-I…Gerard, I’m –” my words were cut off immediately when his hand cupped the back of my head, and his free arm around my waist. Gerard pulled me down to him and embraced me in a deep soulful kiss.
I was taken aback by the sudden embrace, but not enough to pull away. When the initial shock wore off, I closed my eyes and gave back as much as Gerard was giving me. And holy fuck, was he giving me something that was literally stealing my breath away.
The kiss was not how I imagined it. I’d been kissed by many guys growing up, including Brett. I didn’t know if it would be possessive, rough and demanding like Brett’s or dull and lifeless like some of the casual flings I had to entertain my libido. I thought it would be simple but nice, like when Adam and I shared our first kiss, but it wasn’t. They all paled in comparison to the feel of Gerard’s lips on mine.
The kiss was heated, but not enough to devour me. It was filled with affection, longing, desire, wholesome. Gerard was kissing me as if he’d been waiting for centuries to do so, and now that he had me, he wanted to treasure the moment. He wanted to cherish me. I had never felt so desired by a man in all my life, and my eyes burned as if I would cry at the realization.
Was this how my father felt when he kissed Gerard? Was this how it felt to have someone kiss you like you were wanted? I couldn’t begin to comprehend how badly I wanted this moment, how much I needed it. Gerard was claiming me, and I wanted to be his.

About the Author

JM Wolf never thought he would one day say that he's a published M/M romance author. Having a poet for a mother and a sister who once ran a blog, it was only a matter of time before JM discovered his writing genes. In the beginning, his sole purpose in life was to be a singer/songwriter. Writing lyrics was the first step putting his thoughts onto paper. Even while singing, JM always found time to dabble with writing little short stories but never thought too much about it.

Once he reached adulthood, his music dreams left him, but not the feeling for writing down what was in his mind. However, that didn't mean music no longer played a part in JM's life. His debut book The Black Feather was inspired by one of his favorite songs. Whether lyrics or love stories, you will always find JM's heart and soul in every word on paper.

JM Wolf lives in Chesapeake, VA with his husband and in-laws. When he's not writing, you can always find him reading a good book, spending time with the love of his life, or jamming out to music. He didn't pick the world of literature, the literary world picked him.

Jace's Trial (Trials in Abingdon #1)Jace's Trial by J.M. Wolf
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I know there's so much the author wanted to say in this book. About grieving, cope with it, family, career, second chance, friendship, love, revenge, karma etc etc.
Too many issues could be a bit dangerous, sometimes we forgot that we only need one or two at the time.
It's not that I don't love the story. This is actually one nice story, insta-love included. But I cringed a little bit thinking of Gerard lusting after his late boyfriend's son. But yeah, sometimes we need to adjust in some condition.
Gerard and Jace are kinda cute together. Added a drama from Jace's former bedfellow, and we can see how much Jace needed Gerard.
I didn't really connect with the dialogue and how people talked about other people's business (not to mention their bed activities and how big Gerard's dick is, is it even necessary?). The people in this town are nosy!
Overall, this is an okay story for me, despite the weird dialogue and a sudden HEA.
You might ended like this story, who knows?

REVIEW : Color of You by C.S. Poe

35607433

Bowen Merlin— yes, that’s his real name—accepts a position in the quaint town of Lancaster, New Hampshire as the high school band director. He leaves New York City for the snowy countryside of New England just in time for the holidays. With class, homework, after school activities, and a surprise Christmas concert to plan and rehearse, Bowen is plenty busy. And since he’s never had much luck with romance, factoring in time to find Mr. Right isn’t a priority….

Until he meets the proprietor of Snowy Ridge Apple Orchard, Felix Hansen. Suddenly, true love seems like a possibility for the first time in Bowen’s life. The two are a perfect match and fill the skipped beats of each other’s hearts. But as wonderful as Felix seems, he’s harboring scars that could end their budding relationship when someone in town goes to great lengths to sabotage their careers.

If Bowen is to survive the holidays, he’ll need to lean on old friends and new, convince Felix he’s worth any hardship, and prove they can come out of the catastrophe stronger if they do so together.

This book sat for a very long time on my currently reading list. I read it on-off, and last night I managed to finished it.
Let's just say, this one is sweet, with an insta-love vibes, and a classic body shame because of the old trauma. Low angst, no teary angst.
But I was kinda enjoyed it at some point because, hey, let's admit it, who wouldn't want to fall in love in 22 days before Christmas, right? Well, I want (*grins).

There's some moments I wanted to slap their head together because, you know, I always hate assumption.
Talk, and you'll find the answer!
This is a sweet, light, heartwarming story about moving on and acceptance, and coming home.
I liked it.

ARC REVIEW : Twisted and Tied (Marshals, #4) by Mary Calmes

37660998

Deputy US Marshal Miro Jones finally has everything he ever wanted. He’s head-over-heels in love and married to the man of his dreams, his partner Ian Doyle, he’s doing well at work, and all his friends are in good places as well. Things are all tied up nicely… until they’re not.

Change has never been easy for Miro, and when situations at work force the team he’s come to depend on to break apart, and worst of all, his and Ian’s individual strengths put them on two separate paths, he’s pretty certain everything just went up in smoke. But before he can even worry about the future, his past comes for a visit, shaking his world up even more. It’s hard to tell what road he should truly be on, but as he learns some paths are forged and others are discovered, it might be that where he's going is the right course after all. If he can navigate all the twists and turns, he and Ian might just get their happily ever after.

Twisted and Tied (Marshals, #4)Twisted and Tied by Mary Calmes
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

* This was perfection!*

It was a painful ache in my chest right now, to say goodbye to one of my favorite couple, Ian and Miro. But they do need their HEA after all this time.

This is actually the last one of Miro and Ian's story, but I didn't feel like this is the last. Because, there's some blank space that I need to know. The key Hartley gave to Miro. What's there for Miro to open, to see.

And speaking of Craig Hartley, Miro's forever enemy, and their weird 'relationship'. I think I'm sick enough that at some point, I could never hate what Miro and Hartley had. They're dancing in circles. And that day, when Hartley told Miro, "I knew you're mine" and Miro cried and didn't reject that. I cried. I was freaking cried!

“I don’t—this isn’t how I wanted—we’re supposed to be even,” I said, turning to look at him, into his eyes, so close, our noses almost bumping. “I saved
you, you saved me—how am I gonna pay you back?” I asked, my eyes filling.
“Next time,” he whispered, lifting his chin. “Come here.”
Without thought, I turned my head so his lips pressed to my cheek as he squeezed my hand, so tight for just a moment.
“Always knew you were mine,” he said, exhaling.

It made no sense to cry. He was not a good man. He was, in fact, a monster. But somewhere between him shoving a kitchen knife into my side and taking a rib from me, and telling me that, no, my dog was not dead… he had become my monster. We were not what we once were, and in the end, he took a pair of bullets meant for me and saved my life.

But then, there's Ian, always Ian who made him complete. And I ache for Ian, how understandable he is for what Miro felt. It hurts me when they made love that nigh and Ian had to say some words to Miro to convince Miro and 'himself' that they belonged together.

“You don’t belong to Craig Hartley, you understand?”
“Yes.”
“I know you’re hurt, but I won’t allow you to be lost, you understand?”
“You belong to me. You’re mine, and no one and nothing comes between us, not ever.”

From there, I knew how much Ian loved Miro and I couldn't be happier that Miro found Ian.
Sigh, these two consumed me like no others. Guaranteed, one of my favorite couple.
I loved this series, and you should too!

ARC REVIEW : Only You by Melanie Harlow

38232751

Nate Pearson is ridiculously handsome and wears the hell out of a suit and tie, but I’ve seen the parade of beautiful women leaving his apartment across the hall—a different one every time—and I want no part of it. When it comes to romance, I’m looking for something real, something that will last: the happily ever after.

As a divorce attorney, he loves to tell me there’s no such thing.

As a wedding planner, I choose to disagree.

We disagree on almost everything, in fact. Everything except James Bond. The only time we really get along is when we’re watching 007 flicks together, and I’ll admit—he has rescued me from a disaster or five. So when one of the baton twirlers from his parade leaves a baby girl at his door with a note that says “I’ll come back for her” and he begs me for help, I can’t turn him down.

But it’s a mistake.

Because watching him with his daughter, I start to see another side of Nate, a side that has my breath coming faster, my body craving his, my heart longing for him to change his mind about love and tell me there’s a chance for us.

I don’t want to be just another girl leaving his apartment in the morning.

I want to be the one he asks to stay.

Every once in the rarest while, a book shows up like an alien - anonymous and yet in possession of of such ability that made me thinking about reading it. Only You is just such an alien.
Considering my reading preferences for the past few years, there's no way I read MF, and yet here I am, reading about Nate and Emme and infatuated by their dynamic.
This is a really adorable friends to lovers, and added a baby and the chaos after the baby arrived, then I'm sold!
Emme is a romantic and Nate is...NOT!. Emme believed in happy ever after and Nate believed in one night stand. Yeah. There's nothing new about it, but yet, I found this book very interesting, and it's a rare thing these day I found an interesting MF book (no offense to the MF community).
So, actually they're not compatible, but I guess after the baby arrived, Nate started seeing Emme a different perspective and so was Emme.
Even I thought they're moving too fast, I think I'm okay with that, because just like Emme, I am a romantic and I do believe when the time's arrived, they can just 'be'.
And I loved the epilogue.

ARC REVIEW : Robbie (Confessions, #1) by Ella Frank

Relationships are complex.
Love ever-changing.
And when it comes to rules of the heart,
they were made to be broken…

That’s what Robert Antonio Bianchi was telling himself, anyway.
Otherwise, he really had no excuse for what—or who—he’d done.

No excuse, except for his lonely heart, a pitcher of margaritas, four Bitter Bitches, and the apparent need to confess all his weaknesses to the two men he knew would bring him nothing but trouble.

But trouble was nothing new.

Just ask his crazy sisters or any of his friends, and they’d be the first to tell you:
If there was a bad decision to be made, Robbie always had a knack for making it.

And thus begins the story of the priest, the princess, and the prick.

CE LIVRE EST DÉLICIEUX!

Adele is always right.
Sometimes love last and sometimes it just fucking hurts

This quote is quite the most memorable one in this book, and you'll find it on chapter twenty-seven. It was, in fact one of the most memorable and best scenes in this book, because, let's just be honest, Logan is quite a heart-breaker.
I started with Logan, why? Because Logan is the one who started this story, and there's no Robbie without Logan.
I never realized until later, how much Robbie wanted Logan and loved him, heartbroken by him. Damn Logan and his charm.

Robbie gave Logan his five cents was the one made me added more star for this book.

But I was shocked to realized that after all this time, after all this years of knowing you were with him, I'd still been walking around with this misguided fantasy that one day, somehow, you would end up being mine.

Regrets only happen when you aren't brave enough to try something that scares you. I know that because I regret not feeling like I was enough for you, Because God, Logan...I loved you"

Then came Julien and Joel Priestley, and Robbie's world had change into something unbelievably beautiful. Julien and Priest were just what Robbie's need in his life, not Logan, not anyone else.

I loved how Julien and Priest put some effort to woe Robbie and made him felt respected, not just like some cheap third wheel in their marriage.
I liked the dynamic among the three of them, and how they completed each other, because after I read this, I'm pretty much sure, without Robbie, Julien and Priest won't be having a happy marriage life. Sure they love each other, there's no doubt about that, but there's one thing that only Robbie could fulfill, just what Julien told him...

"For me, it's your warmth , your smile, the happiness that radiates off you in waves. You're so passionate about things whether you're angry or excited, and that joy you have for life? It's contagious."

This book felt like a slow burn at least for me, but it wasn't. Robbie decided that he wanted Julien and Priest quite fast, considering he's already 'interested' for months with Julien and Priest.
They're all came with baggage, and I liked that Ella peeled the baggage one by one. This time Robbie's baggage, I believe, in the second book, we'll see what's really made Priest so uptight and guarded.
Actually, I felt a little deja vu about Priest, he reminds me of Tristan from Riley Hart's Broken Pieces.

I enjoyed this book, I enjoyed Robbie, Julien and Priest journey finding their happiness. It's still a long process, but I believe that they'll find it someday.
And as for the sexy times, this is Ella Frank everyone, in case you need a reminder!

Recommended!

ARC REVIEW : FOR THE LIVING BY L.A. WITT

21898057

For the last year, Jay Warren has struggled to find the nerve to tell his wife he’s gay. Every time he gets the chance, though, he freezes up. He’s ashamed of hiding it all this time and he doesn’t want to hurt her, and the guilt has been almost unbearable.

When his wife dies suddenly, Jay’s conscience threatens to eat him alive.

Funeral director Scott Lawson deals with the bereaved every day, and he’s all too familiar with the inside of the closet. He offers Jay some much-needed compassion and understanding, and from that connection comes a friendship that quickly—perhaps too quickly—turns into something more.

But are grief, guilt, and loneliness the only things tying them together? Or will Scott get fed up with being used as an emotional crutch before Jay realizes what he has?

This book was previously published.

I read this a while ago and forgot to write a review (blame my age, lol).
This is actually one of those love/lust at first sight, that didn't work really good for me. Because, well even Jay never really loved his late wife, it felt rude to lust after Scott, especially in only for a very short time. Not that I'm complaining about their union, I was in need of a quick magical connection at the moment, so it was actually okay, in my dictionary.
And Scott is a perfect man, gosh I wish I have my own Scott. He is a perfection. Almost too good for Jay (?).
I liked that they're finally have their happy ending, that's what matter, right? Not my Witt's favorite, but somehow, it quite worked for me.
